Sumac beta terms and privacy notice (version 1, 14 October 2026)

Who we are. Sumac is run by Paul Manville, who decides how your data is used. Contact: paulmanville@gmail.com.

The beta. Sumac is an invite-only beta. It may change, break or be withdrawn, and there is no promise that it will always be available.

What we store. Your name and email address, and the household data you enter: recipes, ingredients, menus, household member profiles (names and nutrition targets) and shopping lists. Your household's private data is visible only to people in your household. We do not sell it or share it with advertisers. Please do not put health information in notes or other free-text boxes.

Children. A household may include children's first names and nutrition targets, entered by the adult account holder. Only adults (18 and over) can have a sign-in. By adding a child you confirm you are their parent or guardian.

Where it lives. The database and sign-in are hosted by Supabase in London. The app runs on Render in Frankfurt, and invitation and sign-in emails are sent through Resend in Ireland. These services handle data for us only to run Sumac.

Your rights. You can download or delete your household at any time from the household page. Deleting removes your private data. Recipes and ingredients you chose to share with the public library stay in the library without your name. Deleted data may remain in backups for a limited period. To ask for access, correction or objection, email the address above.

Using Sumac. Your account is for you and your household. Do not share your sign-in or invite links with anyone outside it, and do not copy, scrape or republish Sumac's recipes, ingredients or other households' shared content in other apps, services or to other people.

No guarantees. Sumac is provided as it is. Nutrition figures are estimates and are not medical or dietary advice. To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be limited by law.

Law and complaints. These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. If you are unhappy, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
